Ready to tackle some touch up paint? Here are some steps to consider:
Gather Supplies: Touch-up paint pen, brush kit, rubbing alcohol, microfiber cloths, fine grit sandpaper 2000–3000 grit, painter's tape, and wax or polish. We carry these items.
Prep the Area: Wash and dry the spot. Sand lightly if there's rust or raised edges. Clean with alcohol to remove oils.
Apply Primer If Needed: For deeper chips exposing metal, dab on primer and let dry 10–15 minutes. This is especially importandt in our harsh Canadian weather.
Paint Application: Shake the pen well. Apply thin layers, building up gradually. Use the brush for precision; avoid blobs. Let each layer dry for 5–10 minutes.
Level and Blend: After the final coat dries in about 1–2 hours, wet sand gently with 2000-grit paper to flatten. Blend edges with a rubbing compound.
Seal and Protect: Apply clear coat, then wax after 24 hours.
Total time: 30 to 60 minutes active work, plus drying.
Pro tip: Work in a shaded, dust-free area at 60–80°F for best results.
Common pitfalls to avoid:
Overapplying (leads to runs).
Mismatched colors (always verify paint code).
Skipping prep (poor adhesion).
